San Francisco born artist, teacher, and callig-rapher, Sonja Hamilton, SWA, is noted for her fluid, concise watercolors - whether landscapes, seascapes or flowers. She was graduated from San Jose State University with a BA Degree and holds a Lifetime Special Teaching Credential in Art, has exhibited
widely, and has paintings in private collections in the USA, Australia, Canada, Mexico, England, France, Japan and China. Sonja has taught in adult education since 1967, has conducted several workshops in Hawaii, California, Arizona, Nevada, and was an instructor on a tour of Italy and Greece, the Canadian Rockies, and France. Among her numerous awards are several Best of Show, First Awards, and the Grumbacher Gold Medallion.
Sonja serves as a juror for the Society of Western Artists exhibitions, San Joaquin & San Mateo County Fairs, Vacaville Art Association, KVPT (Public Television) Fresno, and numerous art groups in the East Bay and SF Peninsula. She is a current board member of Auburn Old Town Gallery where her work is on display, and is also involved in one of the most popular Auburn-area events, Placer County's "Auburn Art Walk", which showcases artists in many businesses four times a year.
Sonja currently teaches two intermediate/
advanced watercolor classes for Placer School for Adults as well as her own seminars.
In June she will be teaching in southern France and in October conducting her 25th annual Asilomar Paint-Away. Additionally,
she is in two art studios tours each year, Mother's Day weekend and Veteran's Day weekend.
